Putin prepared Russia for the war long before, by passing repressive laws, labelling everyone who disagreed with the official narrative a „foreign agent“. In this climate, a group of independent media and activists are trying to continue their work. The film follows the last defenders of democracy in Russia during one decisive year and gives a glimpse of hope for another future.
